Workshop 1 - Gut Health

Do you want to find out more about how the gut can impact our health?

Why not join me for a 2 - hour workshop in the cosy cabin to learn more about gut health and its impact on our bodies? Enjoy a cup of natural herbal tea while learning why gut health matters and what we can do to improve it. You’ll have the chance to sample some gut health foods and will leave with a little goody bag of recipes and gut health exercises to try at home.

Why learn about gut health?

At some point in our lives we have all experienced a ‘gut-wrenching’ experience, or a sense of excitement where we feel butterflies in our stomachs. Our guts can even detect when something seems too good to be true. It’s a clever organ that tells us a lot about our thoughts and emotions through physical reactions.

There is a lot of emerging research about the link between the gut and brain. The brain was traditionally seen as the body’s primary control centre, holding top-down control over the body and sending messages to vital organs via a feedback system. Things are changing. Researchers are changing their views and starting to explore the relationship between the gut and brain connection.

The gut is now recognised as having a much bigger influence over our brain's functions. The gut is actually in control of many body functions, including our:

· Nervous system
· Endocrine system, blood pressure, sleep/wake cycle regulation, diet, mood
· Hormonal/metabolic pathway: absorbing old hormones and, interestingly, the gut provides approximately 95% of total body serotonin
· Immunity support
· Stress, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and leaky gut are all linked to stress, disturbing our gut bacteria

What will the workshop cover?

During this workshop, we will cover some of the main factors impacting gut health including:

· The communication between the digestive system and brain
· The heart and brain connection
· The microbiome
· How diets affect our microbiome
· Issues with the gut
· How food can improve our gut health, including the difference between probiotics and prebiotics
